Yes they can and it happens fairly often in certain circumstances.
My uncle raised deer and also had a black lab. She would often take in a fawn as her ';own'; that had been brought into the house for medical care.
She had several very ';deer'; friends in the fields who would walk over to visit her whenever she was outside.
