Hitting a deer with car?

if u realize ur gonna hit a deer with ur car or truck i heard its better to step on the gas rather than slamming on the breaks is it true?? serious answers only any childlike answers WILL BE REPORTEDHitting a deer with car?
well it's a child like question! no! stop stop always stop increase speed increase force of impact stop stop always stop Jesse p.s. don't remember asker threats before.Hitting a deer with car?
The shape of the vehicle's front end will play a factor here too. I've heard stories of people going fast enough to send a deer flying over top of their car, however in every one of these stories it's a a sports car with a front end that basically made the car a big wedge, so speeding up may make sense if you have a car like this. However if you drive a truck I can only see more damage happening, unless you sit high enough to drive over top of it; but I can see some serious safety hazards with that too, especially if it's a narrow road with other traffic present or a steep enbankment off the shoulder of the road.

Either way hitting a deer is going to cause a fair amount of damage to your vehicle, I suppose you could try the speeding up idea if no one's watching, I can see tickets happening if someone were to see you speed up for a deer and opened their mouth..... So my vote is slow down, it's why we have auto insurance. The big thing is don't swerve! That's where the bad accidents happen, you're always safer hitting a deer head on than at an angle.
Yes it is safer to hit the gas and hit the deer then it is to brake or try to avoid it, it is safer to take the hit because if you slam the brakes you can get rear ended and still wined up hitting the deer, if you try to avoid it you can lose control and flip the car or get hit by someone in the other lane.

A person in my school learned this the hard way about 2 months ago, he just had gotten his drivers license and his first car, he was driving home after a soccer practice and two deer jumped in front of him, he jerked the wheel and lost control, he flipped twice in the air and landed in a ditch, he was unbelievably lucky, the drivers seat was the only part not crushed into a pancake.
It is not, unless you are certain you can get around the deer without hitting it. Adding more speed to the equation is only going to increase the damage to your vehicle and possibly to yourself. I tried that once when I lived in a very rural area and the stupid deer actually ran into the side of my car and damn near flipped me - probably because I was going so much faster.

And seriously? You can't handle any 'childlike answers'? Why are you even on the internet?? If you can't learn to take the good and ignore that which you find distastefull then GTFO the net.

As a lesson in the above, I've given you some of both. Cheers!
Well, my ex girlfriend along with her father and brother, my step father, and many others I know are truck drivers. They all say the same thing-just keep driving like it isn't there. If you hit your brakes or swerve you're more likely to get in a serious accident. Just plow right into it and hope for the best. Let the thumbs down roll from all the PETA freaks.
This is my understanding as well. The theory is if you slow down the deer will end up in your lap kicking the crud out of you. If you speed up, it will send the deer fly over the car or away form you.

Anyhow, I never had it happen but who knows.
this is not true. i know this because they tried it on mythbusters. what they found was the faster the car was going the deer is more likely to fly into the top part of the windshield which will cause severe head trauma.
You don't want to step on the gas, But don't slam on your brakes ether. Also do not swerve to avoid hitting a deer or any other animal.

Why do deer's eat bark?

In the winter, all the leaves fall off trees, and grasses and herbs die and are covered with snow. Deer will also eat all of the vegetation out of a forest, so the bark is the last thing they have. Why do deer's eat bark?
Its deer, not ';deer's';. They eat bark so they won't die of malnutrition and starvation. Why do deer's eat bark?
Deer eat bark when there isn't anything better to eat so they won't starve.

  • Name of a Song In the Movie ';The Deer Hunter';?

My mother used to love the movie ';The Deer Hunter'; made in 1978 with Christopher Walken, Robert De Niro, and Meryl Streep. I just watched it tonight after not watching it for probably about 10 years.

I was wondering if anyone knew the name of a song that was playing when the bride (Angela) and the groom (Stevie) were carried out of the wedding reception.

:)Name of a Song In the Movie ';The Deer Hunter';?
It's been so long since I've seen the film that I don't recall that particular piece of music. These are on the soundtrack:

I live in a shotgun ONLY State. For Deer we use shotgun. Besides no choke, what other chokes ar good for slugs?

Modified chokes are good for reducing recoil.

In the Ring 2, why did all the deer attack the car and why did Aidan say not to stop the car?

How come?In the Ring 2, why did all the deer attack the car and why did Aidan say not to stop the car?
They sensed that the girl was inside Aiden. Thats why they attacked the car. Animals have a very keen sense to things like that. He knew they were going to attack thats why he told his mom not to stop. All Samura wanted was a mom who would love her.

Do deer scream? Ive heard peoplpe say they've heard them scream like women.. sort of how a fox can scream...

Anyone ever heard of this, or heard it themselves?Do deer scream? Ive heard peoplpe say they've heard them scream like women.. sort of how a fox can scream...
I have been hunting Deer for over 35 years now and have heard every sound that a deer makes.

Or at least that鈥檚 what I thought.

I hunt with Bow, Muzzle loader, Rifle and Pistol and normally fill every tag I get.

In the last several years that add up to 8 deer per year.

I put 3 in my freezer and donate the rest to the food banks.

Last year I was on my 5 deer, it was Rifle season and I shot a average size 6 point that field dressed 140 Pounds.

I took a heart shot with a 308 the buck reared up like a stallion which was some thing I had never seen before then let loose with a scream which did sound like a woman and collapsed dead.

I had 2 friends at about 150 yards from me and called me on the radio to see if I knew where that scream came from.

When I told them the deer I just shot, we all three were surprised.

For in all the deer I have shot I have never seen one rear up or heard one scream before.

So yes they do, but it is very seldom that they do.

when injured yes they can make a very loud scream it is not the same a the bleat or bawl calls!

Have you ever heard a deer whistle?
Yes they do , but most always Fawns*...
its kinda like a bleat like a goat not a scream the only animal i ever heard of like that would be a bob cat
I had a friend that hit one with their car tell me it screamed until someone finally shot it. She said it was the most ungodly noise she ever heard.

I have never heard one personally.
rarely do they ';scream'; but bawl and bleat more often. if your bullet placement is good they make no sound. listen to a peacock some time, they scream just like a woman.
Not in outer space. In space, nobody can hear you scream.
This is one of the sounds that a predator call makes ';deer in distresses';, I use one when coyote hunting. I would not say it sounds human... The only way I can describe it would be a bah of a sheep but longer and more forceful.
It is more of a bleating sound. It's pretty plaintive and can last 2 or 3 seconds. It's pretty pitiful, and unmistakable.
I've heard them ';scream'; several times. It falls somewhere between a bleet loud and unsettling, to a high pitiched scream (Like a woman would if being attacked)

Would I do a good job if I was to look after the deer in the park?

No, I think a few of them might come up missing.Would I do a good job if I was to look after the deer in the park?
Um, wouldn't that be a bit like allowing the fox to watch the henhouse? Not that you wouldn't have good intentions, but the temptation might just be a bit too much.Would I do a good job if I was to look after the deer in the park?
Of course you would. You'd make sure no one else got the deer but you. They'd be some what safer, but would start disappearing, one at a time. LMAO
i have a sneaking suspicion that the park would be less a few deer with you at the watch.
Hi no you would eat them all Hugs
As long as you don't get horney
i have every faith in you.... ;)

I avoid it and end up the in the drain.
neither, i'd beep at it with my car horn so that it'll move out of the way. i mean c'mon. girl. alone. late at night. in the drain...doesn't sound good to me at all
hit the deer at an angle to prevent animal destroying ur front window.

    just kill it
I live high on a mountain, so it's happened to me. I swerved to avoid him %26amp; didn't end up in a ditch.
I just pray to God I don't hit it..
I have had this happen several times, I slow down and wait for it to cross, or I slow down and go around it. Crashing is lame and unnecessary, and hitting one is pretty much avoidable. If you live around them, you know when they are out, slow down and watch out....it's as simple as that.
    i dont like deer meat!
Hitting the deer with speed, could well send me in the drain too.

So, I better not hit the deer and try to drive the car as safely.

    Always wear my seat belts..

    Always protect the animals.
It happened. I veered to the right. So did the deer. My car was down about $2100; the deer was a total loss.
Run as fast as I can.
avoid it %26amp; end up in the drain
Try to avoid it so that I don't total my car.
First of all, I would'nt take a chance of driving so fast that im unable to stop at any given moment. No i would drive according to the speed limit where im able to stop when i see a dear crossing even in the dark. And no i would not eat road kill. Remember when you kill a dear on the road its best not to think about it going home with you, because when the meat is exposed to shock the meat becomes tough.
I'd avoid it, that way I wouldn't feel bad for hitting it and my car would probably better off. Those things leave some serious dents...
    Save the deer, dear!
I'll be the one calling AAA to get me out of the ditch.
i aim for him an speed up to fill my freezer
HIT IT BAG IT SNEAK IT HOME LMAO----but then I've never met a deer bigger than my truck :-)

10 points guaranteed !!Pennsylvania Deer Hunting?

Scaring deer out of area..what to do?

?I have had pics of two large bucks every single night for the past two months at a corn pile but they only came when it was dark. I figured out where they are bedding down during day light hours and put a stand 50 yards away fromk it in the woods and now I am not getting pics anymore...do you think I spooked them?..how do I get them to come back??..thanksScaring deer out of area..what to do?
they'll be back.try using peanut butter. good luck.Scaring deer out of area..what to do?
Could very well be that acorns are dropping and they'll be visiting them instead. If that's the case, forget about the corn.

Depending on where you live, the rut is going to begin in 2-4 weeks for a lot of the county. It's time to move to the ridges anyways if you want a decent buck.
Yup, you sure did. ya should have put up that stand months ago. If they do come back, I expect a juicy t-bone sent my way. Good luck.
They probably smelled your scent..... you have to be careful around where they bed down..... you might try a salt lick block and some apples back in their are to see if that will lure them back.
You found them, they found you. There's a balance there. They'll probably be back in a week or two, being creatures of habit, as soon as memory fades a bit.
Whitetails feed on cycles and are pretty dependable while following their daily cycle unless that cycle is interrupted.. I can't say that building your stand might have spooked them, if you built it very recently, or they got your scent. If that's the case, they will eventually return to their old feeding cycle once again, after a few undisturbed days. I've found that there are usually unrelated reasons for the interruption. On nights when there is a full moon, Deer feed all night long instead of just a few hours as they would normally. This in itself can cause a temporary interruption of their regular feeding cycle, and can easily be the reason your trail cam isn't picking up any recent activity. If I were you I would just be patient and give it another week or so before you do anything. Leave your camera where it is for now and give the Deer a chance to return to their regular feeding habits. I'll be willing to bet you haven't seen the last of your Buck.Good Luck!

NOTE* Make sure it is LEGAL in your state to bait Deer....
At this time of the year bucks are all over looking for does. They will probably not come back to the food until the rut is over. General bucks do not even eat much during the rut. Too busy.

So start looking for buck rubs on trees and reset your camera.

Tonight my dog was attacked by a deer!!?

Tonight one of my 3 dogs chased 10 deer down to our back fence. When my husband heard him whining, he charged down there and scared them off the dog.

Well, in the mean-time my little dashound Squirt was going to the bathroom up by the house,my husband turned around because he heard something and it was a deer that ran all the way back up to the house to stomp my dog.

She has a hoof gash right on her side by the shoulder about 2'; long and it's split right open. Not very deep, but how can I treat it as my vet didn't want to see her tonight..Yes,I am changing vets.I have heard superglue, tylenol.I want to know something that you have used, and it works.Tonight my dog was attacked by a deer!!?
    Poor little thing!

Keep pressure on the wound (probably already stopped bleeding, yes?) and put gauze on it. Keep it bandaged good, and call an emergency vet. You can wrap ice in a washcloth and press it to the wound to keep swelling down. Basically treat it as if it was a cut on your skin.

***I wouldn't give the dog any meds, he's pretty small and could get very sick. Superglue is a good idea if the bleeding won't stop--it was created for the US Army as a medical adhesive. But you shouldn't use it unless you really have to.

And shame on your vet for not wanting to see you tonight!Tonight my dog was attacked by a deer!!?
omg! thats horrible! and your dog got OWNED! try calling an emergency vet! they should help you no matter what time of night or day!
For sure give the poor thing tylenol. I lived on a farm growing up, so we have had many injuries with pets, dogs, cats, calves, foals, you name it. And for as awful as this may sound my parents couldn't always afford the vet. So we learned to self treat pretty fast. I had a foal that had gotten attacked my a mt lion. Luckily, the other horses scared it away. Her hind quarters got scratched up pretty bad. Between the basic H, and the mare. She turned out ok. Another one here. I had another foal who had decided to role under the barb wired fence when we were away on vacation in SD. He was only 3 or 4 days old. Well he of course was trying to suckle, ripped his neck wide open. Dad thought he was a gonner. We mixed some basic h and kept it clean with that. It worked like a charm. He ended up with a colic there, but it healed wonderfully. He is now a bronc horse in Bismarck ND.

Just keep it clean. As i think i saw someone advise already, keep pressure on it. Get the bleeding to stop. Once you do that, and get the pain under controll, you'll be one step closer to having your dog back. Still take her to the vet, but those were just ideas for you til then. We've saved cats that have been run over, pups that have been kicked by cows/horses. I swear my dad should have been a vet, but i guess thats what comes with ranchin for all those years and living in the middle of no where.
Here is the basic first aid for a laceration. Scroll down to laceration, to find the treatment%26gt; http://www.dog.com/vet/firstaid/01.asp
yes, I have heard of deer attacking little dogs

clean it out bandage with loose cloth and go to the emergency vet. and shame on your stupid vet, I thought hey weren't allowed to do that.
No tylenol please, it's not safe to give dogs but you can give her a baby aspirin (81 mg), that's safe. If it's not actively bleeding, just keep it clean. You really don't want to put anything on it to seal it if the new vet wants to deep clean it %26amp; depending on how it looks, they may want to put a drain in it.

Deer may look soft %26amp; sweet, but as you've found out, they can get mean. And the stress level was major so they just went after whatever they thought was a threat. Not only will they kick but they'll also bite %26amp; who knows what bacteria they carry.

Hope your little one is alright %26amp; make sure when she feels better, she doesn't try to get revenge. And I would report your vet to the vet association or licensing agency. He is supposed to treat your pet if you feel that it's an emergency %26amp; a dacshound getting kicked by a deer %26amp; injured is. Your new vet should be able to give that info or the humane society.
I feel so sorry for that little pooch! He sounds like a beautiful dog. I wouldn't try to use any glue etc. incase something goes wrong, %26amp; I would call an emergency 24 hour vet as soon as possible. Hope little Squirt heals up soon!
    ah the poor thing.

I would be calling a all night emergency pet clinic/hospital.

I have heard of using glue like you asked, but I wouldn't, the wound needs to be cleaned and checked by a vet.
No tylenol, no NSAIDS.. See a different vet tonight.. You shouldn't do anything that they'll have to undo tomorrow when you go to the vet.

Clean it tho, but leave it.

Do Deer Move Well After Rain?

its still mildly raining where i am, and it just got done with a heavy rain a couple of hours and cant decide if i want 2 go deer hunting, and dont wanna go get soaked and not c anything because they arent movingDo Deer Move Well After Rain?
I have found that after a long and hard rain, there will be very good deer movement afterwards The best time to be up a tree or on stand is as quickly as it stops. When I first started to bow hunt it had rained hard all day and through the night. I was on my stand up a tree when the rain stopped a little after daylight that morning. In 35 minutes I had taken 3 shots. The bad news is that with heavy clothing and a slicker suit, the string kept hitting my bow arm, and I missed a doe, a spike and a decent 8 point.Even missed opportunities make good memories in the world of hunting. Good luck on your hunting! Mine will start in 6 days!Do Deer Move Well After Rain?
Deer will often move after a heavy rain or snow. They often seek out better areas to bed down again with more protection.

One of my most productive photography outings was near Reno righ after a heavy snow storm. The snow quit at about noon and the deer were all on the move out of the ravine bottoms.
I have found then to move well during a light rain and after a heavy rain. Then tend to ';hunker'; down during the heavy stuff, then feel the need to roam when it gets done.
I would imagine they probably do. If they have arthritis like I do, though, you wanna get them before the rain, that's when it really hurts. Good luck!
They are going to be moving after bedding down to stay out of the worst of the rain. Observe where trails cross and hope.
if its heavy rain they well bed down, then when it lets up they come out to eat, most of the time anyway...so yeah they might be out now.
I went hunting after some rain and saw a few deer, but I know that they really move in snow.
only if it is light rain and a good time of day

i got my first deer when it was raining a little after a big downpour
here in Oregon if you wont hunt when it is raining you wont hunt
Its one of the best times to actively hunt them.*

Is it morally okay to kill a deer for sport?

It's called hunting. It isn't really a sport. If someone is going to kill a mammal just to satisfy their sick little blood thirst it couldn't be more wrong. Everyone has a little different opinion. I believe one should be ethical in all he/she does to be conservation minded. Making a clean kill and not wasting the animal is the only way it should ever be done.Is it morally okay to kill a deer for sport?
Well, I really like Ted Nuggent, but I personally could not kill Bambi....I just do not have a hunter's heartIs it morally okay to kill a deer for sport?
In my particular religion, no. We got a rule against that. However if you kill a deer for the purpose of sport AND food, that's a different story.
    Yes.
It's not okay to kill any animal for sport.
    I wouldn't...
No.. killing it for food is another story.
May I kill you? For sport?
No, it is not. If it was the only possible food you could get that would be a different story.
';Hunters'; must have a different ';moral compass,'; if they have any at all, but to kill ANYTHING for sport is just plain mean %26amp; immature. ';Sport'; is recreation, a passtime that suggests competitive activity in a group, (such as baseball), or can be individual as in playing golf. What is competitive about a person (armed, of course), hunting down a defenseless deer %26amp; killing it for the ';sport'; of it? Even ';sportive'; refers to games, playfulness. I have no regrets when I hear of hunters accidentally shooting each other. This is one moral standard that is NOT subjective, or can be defined as ';a matter of opinion.'; (You did say FOR SPORT!)
Not for sport. Killing anything for sport is morbid in my mind. Food is one thing, it's going to good use. To kill something for the purpose of mounting its head on the wall is disgusting.
A guy spents 3 thousand dollars on equipment to kill an animal whos brain is the size of a orange. Is that a sport?
for a sport- no. to keep the population under control- sure.
No only if you're going to eat it.
Yes if you implant the deer with rocket launchers and thermal scope otherwise nope.
whats morals got to do with it....?
Only if the deer threatened to kill you first, Goober.
Morality is a question for the individual, so the answers you get cannot be anything more than opinions. I would not ever hunt for sport because I do consider it morally wrong. However, I will not chastise anyone who believes differently on this matter than I do.
I don't think it is morally wrong. Just kind of pathetic. The way most hunters go armed they may as well be shooting a stray cat in their backyard. How does anyone feel like a man after killing bambi with rifle from long range. Use a bow. Or if you really want a challege how about a knife?

Sorry for the rant, I guess my point is, if you are hunting for food use whatever you need. Don't go out with a gun and say it is sport.
    NO. Rent the movie, ';Powder';
If you bring the meat to my house.
I can not understand the sport of it. You are killing a defensless animal with a gun. Maybe you should at least be man enough about it and go hand to hand.

Why kill the deer, shoot it with a camera if you have to.
no, to kill something just to kill it is wrong. For food is a different story.

i think animals that eat plants love the smell of burning plants. Seriously.

I used to sometimes build fires on my grandpas farm and the cows would normally ignore me and actually stayed away from fire. But the minute i started burning dried grass and straw, the cows ran over and were eating the burning grass, right out of the fire! They were not even afraid of fire.

Then, one of them approached us really close, he was literally about 15 feet away from us... and NO, i was not hallucinating, i was completely aware of his presence and how close he was to me...it was an experience of a lifetime.Do deer like weed, marijuana, pot?
dude the same thing happened to me, except it was squirrels, like five of them. I think all the forest creates like a little pot.Do deer like weed, marijuana, pot?
Duiliath your response can be very true, but i have encountered packs of deer before, and they run off like all hell broke loose... idk, i think they like to eat it

They're curious and were interesting in why there were humans gathered around in their habitat, part of natural animal behavior, it wasn't because they're druggies wanting to smoke -_-
lol, i think they eat the plants in the wild. hahaha! but maybe it was because you quiet. wait? were you quiet? cause if you weren't then that'd be kinda weird. :P
I've smoked lots of pot in the forest and have never had anything like that happen to me. I have had deer eat my pot plants before though.

  • Stupid deer hit my car!!!!?

My boyfriend just got me vent shades for my windows for Christmas, and about two weeks after he put them on a deer hit my drivers side and broke the vent shade. So now I'm driving around with 3 vent shades. Does anyone know of a place that sells vent shades individually? I really don't want to buy all four if I can just buy one. I have a 2003 VW JETTA.Stupid deer hit my car!!!!?
I'm sorry about your accident, but as a long time dealer for ventshades i know its not there practice to sell individual pieces.

the only other suggestion i have is that you might perhaps try a salvage yard in your area or look for a reduced set online. good luck.Stupid deer hit my car!!!!?
i wonder if that deer at time of impact

    was thinking ';i'm so stupid';
    A deer hit YOU?
I've never seen vent shades sold individually. I think you'll just have to bite the bullet and buy a new set. Maybe try and sell the others on ebay. Hope the venison was goood!
deer were here long before cars
Go to or call the VentShade folks and tell them that you were attacked by a stupid deer. It sounds like a reasonable excuse to buy ONE vent thing....too bad it's a Jetta
i think it was the other way around was the deer running at 70 mph and ran into ur car or did u run into the deer.....i think u hit the deer

Do deer know there being hunted?

no way manDo deer know there being hunted?
A deer doesn't know anything. They don't have a language and so can't think ';I am being hunted';. They are conditioned from birth to react to certain stimulus and that is to run away and/or hide. As they escape they don't think ';gotta get away something's trying to kill me!'; because they don't have the words and don't have the understanding of those ideas. In addition they can not link one set of stimulus with another. So if there's a rustle in the bushes and they flee, then there's a snapping of a twig and the flee, and a flicker of movement and they flee, and so on - they can't put this together and know they are connected, that something is following them.

Finally, human beings have a thing called intentionality - that is when we see something we assume that someone intends it to be there, or intends to do something and has left behind a trace. If a man stands infront of your house - you don't like it because you assume he intends to do something. You dog may bark at the guy but not because it thinks the man intends to anything. If we return home and the front door is ajar the we are immediately concerned because the first thing we think is ';someone did this - they are in the house';. A dog wouldn't notice.

Basically, we would know we were hunted but deer wouldn't because they are incapable of thinking in terms of what something intends - they don't even know what they intend when they are running away or hiding, they just do it.Do deer know there being hunted?
deer are a prey species and therefor know that predators are out there.

you ever wunder why the Dodo went extict? because they were from a island with no natural predator, so when we arrived they had no reason to fear us and the rest is history.

deer have always been around predators whether its the wolf, lion or human
When pressure gets going of course they do. We have found deer hiding in drain pipes under roads during rifle season in Michigan. Even if your out in the woods in the summer and a deer knows that your in the area they take it as a threat because they know that we are a predator.
Many times they will smell the scent of man which any deer over a year or two has noticed before and maybe had been shot at as well. They hear and have a great sense of smell.
yes, they don't know there's a man with a gun in the bushes but they know there's something there that is possibly dangerous

    Are Deer Whistles Effective?

I make an hour commute once a week and I'm on the road very early in the morning (still dark outside) and late at night (very dark out) and I drive on a freeway that passes through heavily wooded areas. I frequently see deer that were hit on the side of the road and I am VERY terrified that I may hit one. Has anyone had any experience with this Deer Whistle? Please let me know if it's worth purchasing! :)Are Deer Whistles Effective?
About 5 out of 10 drivers will hit a deer at some point in their life. Deer whistles do nothing except give you a false sense of security. Deer are getting more and more overpopulated and pay less and less attention to human activity as more and more of their natural habitat is consumed for the benefit of humans.

There is absolutely no evidence that they work or don't work. I know a lot of people that have hit deer with the whistles on their car. With or without them, you still only have a 50% chance of not hitting a deer at some point.

As far as worth purchasing, they will do as much to keep you from hitting a deer as 2 cups of store bought coffee at the same price, but might make you feel better. Are Deer Whistles Effective?
Popular opinion would say seem to say no. And research I've read also says no. You best defense is to slow down and keep your eyes peeled! Look from side to side as you are passing wooded areas. Your peripheral vision may not catch a deer standing motionless beside the road (until it suddenly moves), but your central vision will! Always be prepared to stop.

It doesn't hurt to buy 1 or 2. They're inexpensive and their installation is minimal, some use a clip, or L-brace, and some just use an adhesive. Better still, I would recommend upgrading your headlamps, or get beams that will penetrate a farther distance, so if something does come up, then you'll see it well ahead of time.
Ohio Highway Patrol did a study a couple of years ago, and put the whistles on a percentage of their fleet. At the end of the year, the deer strikes per mile driven between the with and the without cars was about the same. No, they don't work...
Hahahah, my friend has those on her car...come to find out they're only for some specific breed of Canadian deer.. but that might be just hers, they probably make them for all kinds. But I do know they don't scare away moose because she hit one the other night.
No. Total waste of money. I can't tell you how many cars I've inspected that hit deer and were equipped with those whistles.

This is from Rootsweb.com the Deer Surname board ';MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THE FAMILY NAME DEER IS OF CELTIC ORIGIN AND MEANS ';WOODS OR FOREST'; AND WAS FIRST USED BY FAMILIES THAT LIVED IN THE WOODS OR FORESTS AND HUNTED ANIMALS FOR THEIR LIVING. FIRST RECORDED IN ABERDEENSHIRE SCOTLAND IN ABOUT 800 AD. ALSO THERE ARE DEER FAMILIES THAT WERE GERMAN DIER

AND CHANGED IT TO DEER. MARTIN DIER WAS IN REV. WAR BUT RECEIVED PENSION AS MARTIN DEER.

THERE ARE ALSO INDIANS THAT ADOPTED THE DEER NAME SINCE THEIR INDIAN NAME MEANT DEER. I HAVE FOUND FAMILIES THAT WERE DEER,THEN DEERE,OR DEAR, OR DEARE, OR DEERY. I BELIEVE

THAT MOST OF THE DEER FAMILY IN THE USA CAME FROM SOME WHERE IN THE BRITISH ISLES ORIGINALLY. THERE ARE DEER FAMILIES IN AUSTRALIA. MY FAMILY ARRIVED IN CHARLESTON SC

IN 1699 AND HE HAD BEEN A PIRATE BEFORE THAT.

    I BELIEVE THAT MY BRANCH HAD BEEN SOLD AS INDENTURED SERVANTS TO SUGAR CANE PLANTATION OWNERS IN BARBADOS FOR 10 POUNDS BY OLIVER CROMWELL IN 1652 AFTER THEIR CIVIL WAR. ';

  • Deer hunting.is this even possible?

ok so i went deer hunting and shot a 12 pointer tracked it down got it right. i shot it right throught the heart and lungs is that possible? and another thing is it ran 2 miles how is that possible with no lungs or heart? i also shot a doe with my bow lol im a rapper! and dropped it in 10 yards with heart shot whats up here?Deer hunting.is this even possible?
I have to admit I'm skeptical. However, assuming that your projectile (you don't say if it's a bullet, slug, arrow, whatever) really did go through one lung, the heart, and the other lung, and the deer really did run two miles, this is my best guess:

Even within the heart/lung ';kill zone';, there's going to be some variation in terms of how fast the blood loss brings the animal down. Say your shot just nicks the heart, instead of shattering it, for example, and the lungs don't collapse. Then the deer will still get some blood pumped to the muscles until it bleeds out, which could take minutes rather than seconds. At about 30 miles an hour, the deer would only need to keep running for 4 minutes to cover two miles. But could even a highly adrenalinized animal keep running at full speed for that long with massive blood loss? It would at least be highly unusual.Deer hunting.is this even possible?
That didn't really happen. A deer cannot run 2 miles when the heart and lungs are all destroyed. It is not physically possible. If one of the lungs or the heart is shot, then it is possible. Also, the heart is in front of the lungs, so you would have had to shoot it from directly in front or behind to hit all three, which would still be hard because the lungs lay next to each other. So it would be almost impossible to shoot through all three unless the bullet was deflected by bone and came back into the vitals.

I think this did not happen.
Well Dusty, here's the deal. I've killed an awful lot of deer in my lifetime, with both gun and bow. When I made a good hit (heart-lung area) with either a gun or bow, a deer will usually run from 50 to 150 yards on average.Very few would drop in their tracks, but it does happen on occasion. However, none have ever ran over 200 yards when hit in the heart-lung area. But when you are blood trailing sometimes it seems as if the deer ran for a mile, especially when trailing at night. But if you actually measured the distance it would be under 200 yards. I think you are just a little mistaken about the distance. Or perhaps you are mistaken about where the bullet hit the deer at. There were many times I would have bet every dollar I had on where I had hit a deer at.And sometimes I was completely wrong. But congratulations on your 12 pointer, and hats off to your great tracking job, no matter how far it actually was.
You shot it with an arrow? If so that is probably your answer. An arrow has absolutely no shocking power and the deer has to bleed out to die. That buck was running on pure adrenaline. You see a man gets shot, stabbed whatever and he knows what has happened and so he drops. An animal has no idea what's going on and so it runs, and runs, and runs... The doe just didn't go into adrenaline overdrive and so it dropped sooner. For this reason I use a .25-06 Remington or larger caliber deer rifle. I've only had one deer run and that shot just took out the heart completely missing the lungs (it must have exhaled) and it ran 110 yards. Now I try for neck shots only.

    H
I smell a tall tail. All those organs dont line up. It would have to walk right at you...if you shot it head on the heart is almost right between the 2 lungs, so you could only hit the heart and one of the lungs. There is is way to hit both lungs front on.If you shot it from the side the heart sits in front of the lungs, the you`ll either hit jsut the heart or both lungs....c`mon kid we`ve been doing this for year. And then for it to run 2 miles? Do you know what 2 miles is in the woods? depending on terrain sometimes 200 yards feels like 2 miles.
yes its possible you complete moron. When you hit a deer with a deadly projectile, it gets awfully excited and this thing called ';adrenaline'; pumps throughout the rest of the deers body. The deer can then run away, even though you may have just shot it in the heart or lungs.
i depends on the caliber you have to make sure the bullet can take the animal down i never had a problem with a 30-06 or you might have just clipped the lungs but they will run a little when you heart shoot them but double lung shot never goes for more than 50 yds tops
I am terribly sorry, but that never really happened the way you told your story.* It would be physically impossible for any animal to have traveled that far with that type of wound or injury.* You are fibbing, and its not even April first yet.*
an animals nervous system will continue to react, even after it is dead. That is how the term';running around like a chicken with it's head cut off'; came about. My sister used to work in a funeral home. She told us alot of stories of bodies suddenly sitting up, brrr
G'day mate all i can say is you must of shot it at a distance and the bullet didn't go deep enough and it bled to death while trying to get away.Or y didn't hit it right and it was near the area of the lungs and heart.cheers mate
And how do you know this? You could of just missed them and only shot in the general vicinity of where the vital organs would be. Cause there's no way it would of been able to run that far or even survive for that long.
It's possible. I knew someone who shot a deer 3 times in the head with 12ga magnum slugs and the damn thing was still trying to get back up. He ended up finishing it off by clubbing it over the head with a tree branch.
If the bullet only scratched the heart or grazed the lungs but did not collapse them or failed to expand upon impact (if you were using FMJ instead of soft pointed rounds or ballistic tips), then I don't see how the deer could run 2 miles before dying.
I tell ya what's up, the 12 point story is BS, or you don't know a deer's internal organs. The doe story is believable. Could be you're a rapper and spinner of tall tales.
i do not believe you either. I have shot 2 bucks and 3 does all in the heart except my first doe I shot it in the neck in the neck and the farest they have ran was about 55 yards.
where are you hunitin i want to go there your a very good hunter i killed a 12 and a 7 pointer in the same dday but back to the question yes its possible but its very rare good huntin
It certainly wouldnt have ran 2 miles, but it may have ran 2-300 yards.
no on the 12 pt. yes on the doe in the fog of tracking 2 miles is out there
    I dont believe you.

    Deer question please help peoples?

is it illegal to give people in jail deer meat, i've been looking everywhere and cant kind anything about it, and if you do know something about it, can you tell me where you found it, thankzDeer question please help peoples?
I know quite a few guys that donate deer to food programs(food banks) for the poor. There is now some controversy about finding lead in ground venison %26amp; talk of ending the program. I'd like them to find a better way to screen/clean the meat %26amp; keep feeding the poor! Around here, deer are greatly overpopulated %26amp; DNR issues hundreds of permits to kill deer for crop damage. You are able to kill them out of season, but you were supposed to let the deer lay..Not sure about that now. They also sell an unlimited amount of doe permits to anyone, to take as many as you can in season... Many people(I'm not one of them) do just love to kill all the deer they can %26amp; don't need all the meat they kill...

I think if they were donated to the prisons that it would further utilize this natural resource %26amp; save the tax payers money... As far as the inmates are concerned, they should eat what they can get...it's probably healthier %26amp; taste better than what they normally get %26amp; possibly better than they deserve!

Seems it would save us taxpayers a lot money %26amp; the meat would not have to be sold, (you did say give, not sell) but donated by those who don't need it all...I think that if it's not legal, it should be! ...Hey %26amp; a little lead won't hurt them too much... lolDeer question please help peoples?
    YES.

I used to work at a maximum security prison for almost 4 years. You cannot bring anything to inmates form outside without going through the proper channels. at the institution I worked at no one could send food into the prison. Check with the prison officials. I am going out on a limb and saying you won't be able to.
Never heard of that before.I vaguely remember that ';Game '; is Illegal to sell. Not certain though.
in some states it is illegal to sell any parts of game animals, but if the sheriff is endorsing this, you should be ok
    i dont know

I have a baby deer! I hit a baby deer tonight w/ my car (yes, I felt TERRIBLE!!!). It was ok I think except..

for I think a broken hind leg. IT IS IN MY CAR RIGHT NOW! I could not leave it there to die, or take it to a clinic to euthanize. WHAT WOULD YOU DO???I have a baby deer! I hit a baby deer tonight w/ my car (yes, I felt TERRIBLE!!!). It was ok I think except..
My mom and I used to rehabilitate deer and often got them from local vets who would call and ask us to take them. You need to get the fawn to a vet who treats exotic animals. Your average local vet may not have the experience or feel comfortable treating wildlife. The vet will be able to x-ray the leg and check for any internal bleeding and give it pain medicine. PLEASE, it is very important to get the fawn in to see a vet. I'm also a surgery nurse, trust me, if the fawn has internal bleeding it could be in some serious trouble. Even if there isn't internal bleeding it still needs to be treated and medicated for pain. You will not get into trouble with the authorities if you ask for help, I promise. Good luck and kiss the fawn for me. And thank you for helping the fawn, many people just leave them, it is because of people like you that Mom and I were able to rehabilitate deer and release them back into the wild to live another day.I have a baby deer! I hit a baby deer tonight w/ my car (yes, I felt TERRIBLE!!!). It was ok I think except..
If there is an emergency vet clinic take it to them. Usually larger emergency clinic will have rehab contacts they can call.
take it to the vet if theyre nice they will not charge you as you don't own it if the vet looks at the leg and sais it should be find tell him to patch it up and youre gonna have to look after it for a while. if the vet says there isnt a pointr in it because it wont heal hes gonna have to put it down
take it to the animal well fare ! they will look after it mend its leg and put it back in the wild !
Call a park ranger. They will know what to do.
I would call animal control. They should be able to determine if it can be saved. Good luck!
a vet could give so much more advice than anyone on the Internet could so take it to a vet.
The poor thing needs a vet. Take it out of the car and get it some water - not too cold. It needs a warm, safe place to rest. See if there is an emergency vet nearby or if you can reach your regular vet. The leg needs to be set and that baby is in a lot of pain. Hope you find someone to help.
Try here for wildlife rehabilitators: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.鈥?/a>
it think it is kind of funny that you decided to go onto Yahoo and ask this question.....
It is way more cruel to keep an animal alive with an injury that is unsaveable. A fractured leg on a deer is not something it will recover from. Your keeping it in immense pain and prolonging its suffering. It is illegal to keep a wild animal in your possession without a liscense, this includes a deer.

You need to put it in the perspective of if you had fractured your leg and now just waited all night to see medical attention. That is animal cruelty at its finest.

Take it to the vet so they can put it out of its misery.
First off calm down, it can feel your panic %26amp; he needs you right now. It was not your fault so do not be afraid to call 911 if you can't find the number to the zoo, overnite vet., animal control or forest service. The police will and can help you in finding help for the poor baby. Hugs to you both. Oh yea DO NOT LEAVE IT ALONE, it will hurt itself more.
Do you not have an animals welfare , or a wild life farm or such like? Is their a Rangers post nearby?Keep it covered up , and take it to a vet or something like that. It will be in pain, so don't delay. They might be able to fix it. Better to put it to sleep if it can't be fixed. It's not your fault, it's one of those hazards. At least you stopped.Good Luck!
Call Animal Control or take to a vet, just take care of the poor thing. It's not okay if you think the leg is broken. Please get it help!!! Good luck;^(
do you have a fenced yard to put the deer in for the night if so keep him over night if not find local wildlife animal refuge and call then they will let you know hwat to do with the little one

Pea Island National Wildlife (252) 473-1131 Northernmost Section Of Hatteras Is, Outer Banks, NC
Call the police and/or veterinarians or animal control. They can help you locate a wildlife rehabilitator %26amp; someone that could provide medical care. Also, look in the phone book for your nearest major city %26amp; see if anything is there under ';wildlife';. Be very careful %26amp; don't get kicked. It may be much stronger than it appears. Do you live anywhere near Greensboro, they have a place I think though it may be closed at night - can't remember the name %26amp; have no phone book. Anyone out there know? Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Greensboro may be able to assist you- they are very smart folks %26amp; if they can't help, they may be able to refer you %26amp; they are OPEN ALL NIGHT %26amp; ON WEEKENDS. CALL THEM. Good Luck!
Take it to a vet, just because it's got a broken leg it doesn't mean they'll kill it.

    they're not horses.

By watching Craigslist in the Tulsa area, a lot of the leases around here bring $1500 for year round hunting access. With 1000 acres you could easily put 10 to 12 people on it without any problems. Deer gun question?

I am thinking of purchasing a 44 mag rifle for deer,Which one should I buy,the Ruger or the Marlin,I like them both.Any input or personal experience from you guys would be greatDeer gun question?
Just bought a Marlin 1895ss. I did shoot a ruger, and I liked it. I chose the Marlin cause I think It looked cool, and It hold value better. I hunted for years with the ought 6, and the .308. 44s put more energy on target with big holes. I tried several brands of ammo, and found 3 that kick arce.

Black Hills 300 grain HP. They shoot the best with the best groups.

Buffalo Bore Lead Hard Cast 300 grain. This round will remind you you are shooting a magnum.

COR-BON 305 Flat Point. These hang up a bit, but do shoot well.

Great Gun, very accurate with iron sights!!!Deer gun question?
really depends on where you live and if there are restrictions on hunting with a semi auto rifle. ruger is the original mfg of 44 rem mag pistols contrary to popular belief (most people think the S%26amp;W mdl 29 is.) likewise, the very first rifle Bill Ruger ever made (circa 1960) was the Deerstalker later known as the .44 carbine, and a later run known as the Deerfield carbine . . . ruger did make the 96/44 which is a lever action, but it is no longer in production, as are the previous two designs. Granted i'm ruger partial . . . but the capacity is only 4 + 1 in lever action or semi-auto. the Rossi %26gt;%26gt;%26gt; now Puma has a capacity of 10+1 if I'm not mistaken, while the Marlin 1894 has a capacity of 10+1 (again if i'm not mistaken.) I guess the big difference that i see is that the Rugers were designed to withstand higher (cup)pressures so the action is stronger and hotter loads can fired vs the capacity of the others. the older ruger semi auto 44 carbines have a fixed mag like a bolt action rifle, which is not a bad thing, however, ruger does offer a detachable rotary magazine design that can be easily and quickly popped out and reloaded so you are not stuck using flat point bullets, which are essential for tubular magazines to prevent the bullets from accidentally discharging the firing pin of the next bullet in the tube mag. still, i believe hornady has a new plastic tipped bullet out that reduces that risk and supposedly increases the range of lever action guns due to its spire point. if all else fails type ruger 44 carbine vs marlin 1894 44 into the google search engine and see what other people think. its all about doing your homework.
The Marlin will be more accurate and cheaper.

Another to consider is the Legacy sports PUMA. This is a Rossi made in Brazil and is a 1892 clone and will be just as accurate as the other rifles mentioned. The regular model can't have a scope on it, but if you like open sights and tradition you might like it. They do have a scout scope model as well.

    http://www.legacysports.com/products/pum鈥?/a>

    Just something to look at
Both the Ruger and the Marlin are great little rifles. I've owned .44 Mags made by Rossi (1892 Winchester clone) and an authentic Winchester 1894 Trapper with the 16'; barrel. They are hard to beat for short range work. I carry my .44 Mag. Trapper now if all I'm doing is checking the pond or hog traps.

    H
I killed my first deer with a Ruger .44 Mag rifle. Great brush or short distance gun. It is not very accurate over 125 yards or so, but has tremendous knockdown power. The Marlin is probably a little less expensive, but I prefer a Ruger.
I own Ruger rifles and can say they make an excellent product...... I dont own the model your looking at but do own several others of there rifles and can say they are reliable, accurate and look nice too........
i had a 44 ruger years ago...it was a nice shooting handy gun...just remember 44 is really a handgun cal...less than 100 yards MAX range...50 to 75 yrds even better
    Get a Marlin 336 30-30, more power then a .44 mag
They're both excellent arms. Just go with the one that feels right to you...it's just personal preference.
    I would just get a 30-30 marlin or a 243.

Go to the California Department of Fish and Game's website and look it up. ';Near Mt. Shasta'; isn't enough information to determine which zone you will be hunting in. Find the spot on their map, and it will tell you which zone you are hunting in, and when it starts.

  • Will a salt block attract deer? Not to hunt just to watch!?

If there are already deer in the area a cider or apple salt block may attract them to a specific location.

When I was growing up behind our home was a woods and there were deer there. My father put an apple salt block on the edge of our property and the deer came to it. They would come every evening. He then bought field corn (off the husk) and put a couple of piles of this in place of the salt block. Every few days he would move the corn piles (2 piles about 5 cups each) closer and closer towards the house. Eventually the deer ate the corn off our patio 15 feet from our door:) nightly:)

Have fun. Will a salt block attract deer? Not to hunt just to watch!?
If you want to attract Deer for viewing only Look for a stump in your yard about 1-4 in above ground level wait for a really hot day pour a mixture of deer honey or molasses on it stay close to keep the squirrels away let soak 4 hours do it again then let it alone a couple days later do it all over again. soon deer will arrive salt block is a plus also running water on ground close to area like a small trickle stream down the hill etc, not to fancy put it on a timer during early am or pm hours corn is also good. deer will begin to check it out. please note deer are like horses they see a piece of paper bounce they run first. escape is there only defense. also is busy road close by will they run into traffic hurt some one else. if all is OK do it. OK!- so I hunt but out of the 1000 deer I have taken I use 80% of it to improve my life. and I have killed 1000+ ,I have seen 100000. luckWill a salt block attract deer? Not to hunt just to watch!?
Many States will tell you they have to be gone or out of the woods etc, 30 days before hunting season. Otherwise it is considered baiting the deer. If it just in your back yard, regulations probably wont apply.
    Yes it will attract deer but you should check your local wildlife laws first. In Illinois it is illegal because they believe it can cause the spread of CWD ';chronic wasting disease';
The short answer is yes. I have done this several times. Occasionally, you can just set the block of salt on the ground and they will come to it within a few days. Other places, this didn't work and I had to bury the block in the ground. Burying the block seems to always work so that is the way I would do it. You don't have to bury it deep. Just dig a hole that is a few inches deeper than the block. About 3 or 4 inches is good. Cover the block with soil and then sprinkle ice cream salt on top of it. Use a rake to work the icecream salt into the top soil and wait for a few days for the deer to find it. They will find it. I don't know how. I guess they can smell the salt. Be aware, though, that where ever you bury the salt block, the deer will make a wallow when they dig out the salt and lick it. Pick the location so that you don't have a mess where you don't want it. Besides, the salt will kill plants and grass in the immediate area. Get some high speed film, make yourself a blind where you can hide and take pictures and then get out to your blind before daylight and again in the late afternnoon to get your pictures.
Yes, It believe it is alled a deer lick.
Salt would work, but corn is probably better. Make a feeder for it. Our neighbors have a feeder with corn in it right on the edge of the woods and I see deer all the time, not to mention birds and squirrels.
The salt blocks are good for attracting deer and the mineral blocks are even better. Several of my hunting friends and myself have put out mineral blocks. The deer are really turning up for it and we are getting some nice trail cam pics. Check out my trail cam pics at my site .

    http://www.whitetailsinsight.com/trailcampics.htm
Deer do need salt %26amp; will lick salt blocks.

They do not need it everyday and in most places find enough in thier natural foods. A timed feeder loaded with corn would probably be a better bet.
Yes, it will. But you will attract more deer with a good mineral mix. Advanced Whitetail Hunting has a great mix that works fantastic for me. It has vitimans, minerals, salt and a sweetener. I would use that over just salt
they are just like anything else and do not always work
It should...if you have deer to attract! So will feed corn. Put some at the edge of your property, they'll find it.
sure will - but remember deer eat flowers, bushes, trees, and anything else planted around your house if you lure them in. They are notorious for completely trashing landscaping around homes when anyone in the neighborhood attracts them with food or anything.

DEER HUNTING THIS WEEKEND ANY TIPS?

SO CANT WAIT! TIPS PLZ! =)DEER HUNTING THIS WEEKEND ANY TIPS?
dont get whats called buck fever and shoot everything that moves.

only shoot if you know what is behind your target (or deer)

and only shoot if you know you can take the shot and not just wound it. also, just be smart and use common sence and you'll be fine.

DEER HUNTING THIS WEEKEND ANY TIPS?
I would say you need to practice your spelling and grammar more than your hunting skills. And I come from a family of hunters so yes, I do know what's involved. I'll tell you the same thing I tell my family: leave the deer alone and their natural predators will keep the population in check..

The weekends over, but here are my tips. The deer do two things very well... Smell and hear. They can see fairly well, but are mostly color blind. If everything is calm in the woods except for you, they can pick up on your movements. Slow movements when the deer has it's head turned is the best bet to get into a shooting position. For your smell, buy a cover scent and store all of your hunting clothes in a Tupperware container. Put in some small pine or cedar branches to get them smelling really fresh. Use a ground blind if your hunting from the ground, and if your in a tree stand, the higher the better. Be safe in the woods, don't aim your weapon at anything you don't want to kill. Treat every weapon as if it was loaded. If your in a tree stand use a safety vest that attaches to the tree. Have a good trip.
Don't get excited as soon as you see a deer and pull the trigger instantly, force yourself to take a brief moment before beginning to squeeze the trigger. First time hunters, and sometimes experienced hunters, miss the shot because they get too excited once they finally see the animal.
Do not wear perfumes and scented soap, hang your hunting gear outside to air off, carry a few apples in your pockets,be quiet and be patient, letting the deer get as close to you as possible.and most of all Happy and SAFE hunting.
don't get to excited when it come times to shoot keep it cool deep breaths and most important have fun
Use a ground blind, or tree stand, and be very patient.*
Don't be afraid to shoot for meat instead of Trophy
Use a camera instead of a gun

    ....

People sitting in a deer stand, using a gun on an animal that is just doing what it was put on earth to do (forage) is hardly sport. It's more like a slaughter, strictly for your entertainment.

    But I'll tell you what: to make it fair, put down the gun, hide in the brush and if you can ambush the deer, bring it down and kill it with your bare hands - no knife, no gun, nothing but you vs. the animal ... then I'll give you props for ';HUNTING';

Otherwise, you're just a killer. And yes, I AM a vegetarian, and no I DON'T wear leather.

Deer scents please please help me?

what is a good scent for bucks (even small ones) that will work well and can you tell me how to use them im new to scents

    thank

(best answer for a pic of their trophy)Deer scents please please help me?
I have never had much success in killing a monster with scents.

What I can tell you. I use to raise deer and still have one for a pet. During the rut bucks, any and all bucks go crazy with estrogen. Any doe in heat will drive them crazy. We have always had to never go around the deer when ever we have even come close to doe in heat, even the cheap stuff. They will try to come through the fence.

I don't know what good this particular info can do for you but also bucks go crazy around women on their monthly cycle. Women need to be careful while hunting at that time.

    ';Bambino'; is sheding his velvet.

http://s611.photobucket.com/albums/tt196鈥?/a>Deer scents please please help me?
I've used Tinks #69. It's all about timing with scents as it is with rattling. Best time to lure a buck in with scents is after the main rut when the bucks are out scouting for any does that are coming into heat late. You'll want to set up at least 3 scent tags/strips around you (about 10-12yds away 5-6ft off the ground), do it on a day when there is a slight breeze so the scent will carry through the timber (best is when the breeze is blowing in the direction that you know bucks travel) Then sit and keep watching downwind of your scent tags/strips. Sooner or later if a buck catches wind of them he'll show up.
I have seven deer mounted on the wall. None were killed using scents, even though I used them for several years.Having said that, I will have to say others have had some success or at least credit their success to using a certain type of scent to lure them in. It's just that I have never had any success at luring a wall-hanger in when using scents.Keep a tally on how many pictures you get. That may tell you something one way or another.
I have had some success with scents. Its all about the time you use them (pre-rut, rut, post-rut) and what you use them with (calls, rattling, etc...)

Sorry, I don't have facebook or any of that stuff to show you, but the biggest buck I have shot grossed 168 2/8. I live in Iowa so we have a lot of BIG deer.

    NO. Rent the movie, ';Powder';

Don't limit yourself to new and expensive firearms. Older military surplus rifles are an attractive alternative. Mosin Nagants, Enfields and Mausers are three relatively inexpensive rifles that, when used with the correct hollowpoint rounds will be more than adequate.

These rifles start at under a hundred dollars in excellent shape and all should be capable of better accuracy than is needed. One drawback is you may have to spend a few more dollars on a scope setup if that is what you want.

The most important thing is to practice with the rifle until you are proficient and safe at all times, no matter what type or caliber.
hi, there are a lot of reliable rifles for less than 800. you can go back to basics with a lever action rifle like the Marlin 336. Very nice shooting and very reliable. Hell, they've been using them for over 100 years. You can find them for as little as $350-800 depending on the finish and stocks and materials. If you don't mind shooting without a scope for a while, a remington 700 is good. you can find them from $450-1500 depending on the model. Check out the these pages

Don't waste your money. Corn is more effective and 10 times cheaper. The only thing cmere deer has going for it is a good infomercial by Hank Parker, whose family makes and distributes the cmere deer lineup. just about everything I have read about this product is negative. pure sugar from the grocery store works well. if you are looking for something to spray, try apple juice, it has the smell and the sweetness that will attract deer. anything sweet, and sweet smelling will attract deer.
I know you can get it at gander mountain, I got some there but I have had no significant luck with it... theres no more deer now than when I didnt use it.. but if you use it I wish you luck and good luck on the season
Wal-Mart has it on their website. You might be able to find it at sporting goods stores.

Why is hunting so much fun,i almost hate summer because all i can think about is october and deer, how about yo

I know the feeling I love hunting too I take a month off work or more to go every fall , summer does give us time to prepare for the hunt get out rifle and bow sighted in ,gear in order, etc

There is nothing like watching the sunrise and the woods come to life and hearing a big buck shuffling in the leaves coming towards you on a cold frosty morningWhy is hunting so much fun,i almost hate summer because all i can think about is october and deer, how about yo
Hunting is different things to different people.

It's a chance to get away from society and all its noise and bad air. (I know guys who really like the social event rather than actually bagging something.) It's challenging... animals like deer, birds and squirrels are ';prey';...and they know it. They're very good at evading someone with a rifle. It's not as one sided as it may look.

Another thing is that hunting is actually a good thing...and some people like the feeling that they are not only doing something good for the environment but also getting something practical out of it (food). (Hunters are usually leading conservationists.)

Regarding deer.... they are beautiful creatures; but there are so many deer that they are starving in many areas.... this leads them to strip bark off of trees (killing the trees), eat ANYTHING that is lower than 6 feet in the forest...killing the undergrowth and new trees.. and wander into populated areas.... where they can be a serious hazard. (You do NOT want a 250 pound buck with antlers crashing through the windshield of your car at 60 mph.) Over population leads to the spread of Lyme disease and other illnesses.... which can then spread to people.

Hunting may seem cruel, but death comes to all wild animals of course, and I suspect that being killed by a well-placed bullet or arrow is ';preferable'; to slow starvation, freezing to death, infection and/or being eaten alive by carnivores. One moment the deer is happily strolling through the forest he loves and then death comes so fast that there is little if any pain or suffering.

Deer meat, by the way, is lower in fat than beef...and because it's wild...is not pumped full of antibiotics, growth hormones and all the other junk that comes out of factory meat farms.

I know of guys who feed their entire family well for a year on two deer. Next time you're at the store, take a look at the price of hamburger and figure out how much money is being saved if a family of four avoided buying red meat for a year...money that can be used for other things...clothing, savings, repairs. (And if he did not hunt the deer, then his family would have to by meat at the grocery, which would mean that an antibiotic, steroid pumped steer was killed.)Why is hunting so much fun,i almost hate summer because all i can think about is october and deer, how about yo

Have you ever hit a Deer?

Right in the face for eating the last potato chip?Have you ever hit a Deer?
No, I kicked his butt. Now, when he scarfed down the pork rinds my roommate hid under the sofa cushion, that was a fighting offense, and I slapped him for that. He cried crocodile tears and said he'd never do it again.Have you ever hit a Deer?
Many years ago. It was night and the poor creature jumped out into the road - directly in front of my car. There was nothing I could do to avoid hitting it. The entire front end of my car had to be replaced, along with the windshield and the radiator. The deer crap had to be scrubbed off, necessitating the need for a new paint job.
twice last week. dang deer finished two bags of Doritos in one sitting. after hitting him i put him in a headlock, dare him to try that again.
    no you wierdo
No, I was hit by the deer! ;)
    Nope
    no thank goodness never

    Deer hunting?

hey i was wondering, yes i have never shot a compound bow in my life, but with alot of practice it being december 24, 2007 could i make it out to deer hunting by january 15 and take a deer? what do you think and merry christmas.Deer hunting?
hunting is way more than just operating a bow or gun. its about ultimately coming within range of the animal and the steps to get there. you should have a bowhunter show you the skills then its just repetition from there on out. depends on how quickly you learn and get it downDeer hunting?
I believe you could with your determination and attitude.* When you want it badly enough, you can make it happen.* Merry Christmas.* Best Regards.*
Yeah its possible if you have a background in shooting, and the bow is tuned in prior to your shooting. If not, I'd say you'd have to be lucky. BUt you never know until you try and just being out and away from the office is worth the try.

    Hope that helps
I think it's a bad idea. You need a lot more practice than just a few weeks when using a bow. There is a very high potential that you'll wound and not kill it immediately. It's a bit irresponsible if you go hunting with such little archery experience. Don't mean to be a jerk but bow hunting is about accuracy and consistency.
i would forego this year and concentrate on next year. it is possible that you could go out and get one, however, the worst thing you can do is let one fly and miss, therefore spooking the deer, or worst yet is to hit the deer and not make a killing shot, wounding the deer and have him walk off. the thing i would do is to scout out the area that i intend to hunt, look for signs the indicate a deer's presence and practice. do you know what kind of arrowheads you intend on using? do you know the flight characteristics of your arrows? can you draw back and not make a sound? can you tell how far away the deer is before shooting? if you don't know these answers, then you are not ready for a hunting trip this year with a bow. bow hunting is more difficult than rifle hunting. you can't just go out and give it a try. you need to practice more with a bow than a rifle.
That depends on how much deer hunting expertise you have. You could also just get ridiculously lucky and have a blind and deaf 14 pointer walk into range, quarter away from you and stop for 20 minutes. Most likely scenario though is that you won't be able to get a decent one to come within bow range this year, but you always have next season. One things for sure though, you will definately shoot more being out in a stand than sitting at home watching Survivor or whatever you enjoy on the television.
I guess im just beating a dead horse...but it all depends on how much prior experience you have with the art of hunting an animal that has better sight, smell, hearing, and overall better situational awareness then us humans do. If you can get close to a deer with a rifle, then you can get close to a deer with any weapon. If you can get close then it all depends on how well you can manipulate your bow. A lot of factors that really dont effect you when your shooting a deer with a rifle at 30 yards will show up and ruin your day if your shooting a bow. GET OUT AND PRACTICE SHOOTING, and you will most definately be ready to kill a deer archer style come january 15. Merry Christmas
I think that if you practiced every day you could do it.I wouldn't recommend it with only 3 weeks of practice under your belt.If you shoot a deer and wound it,the blame falls directly on you,can you live with that,i couldnt. My suggestion is to focus on next year with your bow.But could you do it,yes I think you could but would it be ethical, that question is up to you
My recommendation would be this. Practice with the bow at the max range you would be shooting in the field (for me I will not ever shoot at a big game animal farther than 25 yards) AND closer. If you can consistently hit a 9'; paper plate, 4 out of 5 shots, you should be ok to hunt deer at that range. If you have ';fliers'; or pulled shots more than once out of every 5 I would forego this season and practice till next year.
There was a lady that started bow hunting, and just after a month she bagged either a record mule deer or elk. I can't remember now.
