I live in Ohio. I was wondering if I can still find deer sheds in the woods or is it to late in the season? Any tips on how to find them.WhiteTail Deer Sheds?
Yes you can find them now , I have some nice sheds I have found in Ohio. Look near bedding areas often a deer will loose them in those areas ,near thicket edges and especially near fences. When a deer jumps a fence or gets in thick brush often a loose antler will come off by either being jarred loose from the jump or they will get hung on a branch.
When you find one shed look for another close by. A deer will often loose one then try to brush/rub the other one off because it feels off balance to them. So look in the area for the matching shed
Also they are hard to see but I look for the white tips of an antler instead of the whole antler.
Its a great time to find sheds before the brush grows up thick and before the rodents eat them .
Some times you can take a dog they can find them or can be trained to find them
Good Luck and enjoy your huntingWhiteTail Deer Sheds?
another tip is to look when its wet outside. a wet antler will be more shiny than most anything else on the ground, making it stick out more.
yes i live in ohio and just scouted last weekend and just look at very worn in paths or where there are alot of rubs because deer stend alot of time there
there may be a few left. most times they look like tree branchs lay n around. check every thing you see.
You should be able to find them now. If the mice have not ate them all ready which I don't think they have it takes awhile for that.
actually if you are lucky, you can find them just about any time of the year. In order to find them though, it is best to go off the beaten path where the normal foot traffic does not wander,
i once found a dear antler and i took it to fish and game and they told me it was 20yrs old they were surprised that some small predator did not chew it up so this should answer your question that it is never to late to go look antlers fall of in mid winter and i agree totally with Brandon
