Will a salt block attract deer? Not to hunt just to watch!?

If there are already deer in the area a cider or apple salt block may attract them to a specific location.


When I was growing up behind our home was a woods and there were deer there. My father put an apple salt block on the edge of our property and the deer came to it. They would come every evening. He then bought field corn (off the husk) and put a couple of piles of this in place of the salt block. Every few days he would move the corn piles (2 piles about 5 cups each) closer and closer towards the house. Eventually the deer ate the corn off our patio 15 feet from our door:) nightly:)

If you want to attract Deer for viewing only Look for a stump in your yard about 1-4 in above ground level wait for a really hot day pour a mixture of deer honey or molasses on it stay close to keep the squirrels away let soak 4 hours do it again then let it alone a couple days later do it all over again. soon deer will arrive salt block is a plus also running water on ground close to area like a small trickle stream down the hill etc, not to fancy put it on a timer during early am or pm hours corn is also good. deer will begin to check it out. please note deer are like horses they see a piece of paper bounce they run first. escape is there only defense. also is busy road close by will they run into traffic hurt some one else. if all is OK do it. OK!- so I hunt but out of the 1000 deer I have taken I use 80% of it to improve my life. and I have killed 1000+ ,I have seen 100000. luckWill a salt block attract deer? Not to hunt just to watch!?
Many States will tell you they have to be gone or out of the woods etc, 30 days before hunting season. Otherwise it is considered baiting the deer. If it just in your back yard, regulations probably wont apply.
Yes it will attract deer but you should check your local wildlife laws first. In Illinois it is illegal because they believe it can cause the spread of CWD ';chronic wasting disease';
The short answer is yes. I have done this several times. Occasionally, you can just set the block of salt on the ground and they will come to it within a few days. Other places, this didn't work and I had to bury the block in the ground. Burying the block seems to always work so that is the way I would do it. You don't have to bury it deep. Just dig a hole that is a few inches deeper than the block. About 3 or 4 inches is good. Cover the block with soil and then sprinkle ice cream salt on top of it. Use a rake to work the icecream salt into the top soil and wait for a few days for the deer to find it. They will find it. I don't know how. I guess they can smell the salt. Be aware, though, that where ever you bury the salt block, the deer will make a wallow when they dig out the salt and lick it. Pick the location so that you don't have a mess where you don't want it. Besides, the salt will kill plants and grass in the immediate area. Get some high speed film, make yourself a blind where you can hide and take pictures and then get out to your blind before daylight and again in the late afternnoon to get your pictures.

Salt would work, but corn is probably better. Make a feeder for it. Our neighbors have a feeder with corn in it right on the edge of the woods and I see deer all the time, not to mention birds and squirrels.
The salt blocks are good for attracting deer and the mineral blocks are even better. Several of my hunting friends and myself have put out mineral blocks. The deer are really turning up for it and we are getting some nice trail cam pics. Check out my trail cam pics at my site .

Deer do need salt %26amp; will lick salt blocks.


They do not need it everyday and in most places find enough in thier natural foods. A timed feeder loaded with corn would probably be a better bet.
Yes, it will. But you will attract more deer with a good mineral mix. Advanced Whitetail Hunting has a great mix that works fantastic for me. It has vitimans,minerals, salt and a sweetener. I would use that over just salt
they are just like anything else and do not always work
It should...if you have deer to attract! So will feed corn. Put some at the edge of your property, they'll find it.
sure will - but remember deer eat flowers, bushes, trees, and anything else planted around your house if you lure them in. They are notorious for completely trashing landscaping around homes when anyone in the neighborhood attracts them with food or anything.
