What is the muzel speed and effective range for deer hunting with a 30/30 model 94 knock down power ext. ext.?

open sights or with a scope if that is even possible with a top ejection gunWhat is the muzel speed and effective range for deer hunting with a 30/30 model 94 knock down power ext. ext.?
Here in the South the 30/30 is the de facto standard rifle for deer. (In my family) the longest ';effective'; kill with iron sights has been about 240 yrds or so. After that the round loses much of its effectiveness on deer.

Just my 2 cents. What is the muzel speed and effective range for deer hunting with a 30/30 model 94 knock down power ext. ext.?
completely depends on the cartriges that you use.

For most ';normal'; rounds, effective range 15-400m.

Beyond that there is too much play in a model 94.

Higher grain rounds will increase that distance. I really prefer the holographic sites for that style rifle. It really makes hunting a joy to line up the floating red dot and squeeze it out.
The gun generally runs at about 2200fps depending on bullet weight.

It will kill medium game out to 150 yards and 200-250 if you really use the gun well.

At close range it will flatten hogs and such game nicley where they stand.

Where I am we do not have bear or moose but once again if you use the gun really well I have seen it take wild horses, donkeys, camels, large deer species and even scrub bulls(feral cattle species) down(all non native pests where I come from) but it is a bit of a stretch for it.

You need to start picking perfect lung or head shots the bigger the animal gets for the size of cartrdige you are using.

For interests sake maxiumum range of such velocity bullets at around 35-40 degrees elevation is somehwhere over 3000 yards but only going about 250fps when it lands.
The muzzle velocity of a Factory 30-30 round loaded with a 170 grain bullet is 2200 feet per seconds and this yields 1820 foot pounds of energy. The 30-30 is certainly adequate for white tail deer up to 150 yards. Most deer are taken at shorter ranges, 40-60 yards. There are side scope mounts made for the older top eject 94s though it is questionable how much you need a scope at typical woods hunting ranges. A scope never makes up for lack of practice. If you are hunting in more open country where you would get shots at longer that is a different matter.
a 30/30 is good at close range like under 100 yards but I have taken deer up to 165 with it muzzle speed depends on type of ammo you use it should tell something on the box don't count on knocking down deer at far range unless your a good shoot and yes you can get a scope for top ejection rifles
The Winchester Model 94 30-30 is one of the most popular and effective Deer hunting rifles ever made. They have been sold by the 1,000's and continue to be popular today. In 30-30 caliber they have an effective range of just over 150 yards with iron sights and 200+ when a scope is used. You CAN mount a scope on the 94. It involves an off-set scope base that puts the scope off to the left of center to allow the rifle to eject the empty cartridges after firing. As a collector I have several and a few are variations of the Model 94 made over the past 25-30 years. The 30-30 soft tip copper jacketed 170 grain bullet will open up to the size of a nickel and stop any deer in its tracks if a good shot placement. Between the Winchester Model 94 and the Marlin 30-30 lever action it is a toss up as to which has killed more Deer. No other rifles in history can make this claim. They retain a high rate of value to hunters and collectors even today. Most people that own one, keep them. You can't go wrong owning one of these!
