Probably the most popular of northwestern game, you all know there is a wide variety of guns used to hunt deerPeople use everything from black powder muzzleloaders to customized assault rifles. My question is what is your personal favorite.Shotguns count too.Whats your Deer Rifle?
For a rifle, I have 2. A 1953 Winchester Mod. 94 30-30 and my Springfield M1 Garand 30-06.
I have an Ithica 12 ga for my shotgun.Whats your Deer Rifle?
My K98 Mauser in 8mm equipped with a 4 power scope, Remington Model 721 in 30-06 equipped with a 3x9 variable scope, Winchester Pre-64 in 32 Winchester Special with open sights, Hoyt full re curve 47lb bow with no sights.**
For deer I favor my old tried-n-true Remington 700 ADL in .25-06 Remington.

I hunt with a 50 caliber Hawken black powder. and I also have a Winchester Model 70 30-06 for rifle season. Although I can shoot more accurately with the 06 I prefer to hunt during black powder season. It is more sporting and not as many people out. The Hawken is just not nearly as accurate over 100 yards.
I have several different rifles I've taken deer with. In NY it was slugs only so I've taken deer with 4 shotguns also. My favorite gun for deer now has to be my Remington model 7SS in 7mm-08. With the stainless barrel and synthetic stock, it's not affected by weather and the 7mm-08 will cleanly take deer at all reasonable ranges. I have Leupold rings on it and a Pentax 3X9 scope. Very accurate and reliable gun.
Where I live we can only use shotguns my favorite is a 20 gage pump bought at Montgomery Wards 41 years ago.I use 3'; Brenneke slugs they always find their mark.
winchester model 70, featherweight chambered in .270 winchester
Hart custom rifle in .243 Ackley Improved for rifle season and a 70 lb. Bowtech Guardian for bow season
My IHC M1 Garand .30-06
Remington MDL 700 BDL-DM .338 Win Mag w/ 3 lbs trigger pull. 1 shot, 1 kill, no tracking.
For general hunting, my favorite is my Browning BLR in .358 Winchester, the best medium bore cartridge around.
For close in hunting in thick stuff, I sometimes use my Social Rifle, a Rossi M-92 SRC in .357 Magnum.
For muzzle-loader season, I use a Thompson/Center .54 Caliber Renegade. I consider the .54 caliber to be a great compromise between the high velocity of the .50's and the bullet weight of the .58's.

a Matthews switch back LD if I rifle hunt I use a Remington game master 760 .300 Savage
I have about a dozen ';deer rifles'; and a few more that I use on deer occasionally but can't really be called that. I can't narrow it down to just one, but if you'll take two, they'd be (1) a Remington 700 Mountain rifle in 7x57 Mauser and (2) a Winchester 71 in, of course, 348 Winchester. Both are great rifles and great calibers, but I have to admit sentiment plays a part in those choices as well.
Model 700 BDL 30-06 since 1982 27 Deer 1 Antelope 2 Mountain Goat 50+ Ground Hog and smaller ground rats. 870 12
I have two I use every season. I head into the woods opening day with my Savage Model 111, 30-06, with a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9X40. I also use my sporterized K98 8X57mm, topped with a Simmons 8-Point Coated Lenses, 3-9X40. I will occasionally take out a Winchester Model 70, 7mm Rem. Mag. too.
My pick depends on where I'm hunting at the time. In a large open field I take my Browning A-bolt 30-06. For smaller fields I use a Kimber in 7mm-08. For a bushy area I like my Winchester lever action .38-55.

You know I have other deer rifles but I will always have a special place for my first - a Winchester lever action 30-30.
For whitetails in the East, I like the Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08. For mule deer in the West, I like the Remington Model 700 in .300 Win. Mag., because sometimes I have to shoot across a canyon in the mountains.
60 lb compound bow, 30-06 custom!
My father uses a 30-06 A-bolt, whereas i prefer a .308 semi automatic, but we both agree our uncle has the coolest one, a 300 Savage pump action rifle. I know coworkers who have shot plenty of deer using .22LR and even one who dropped a deer with a 100 yard shot from a .17HMR (i do not condone using smaller caliber rifles since it's illegal to use anything smaller than a .275 caliber for deer i think). My brother shot a deer with a 7.62x39mm SKS from 50 yards using the iron sights. And yes it was with the first shot of its 30 round magazine. We hunt in minnesota at a rock quarry my uncle retained the hunting rights to after selling the land. Great migratory trails with perfect ridges of mined rock to shoot from, almost too convenient, like fishing out of an aquarium. Personally i plan on eventually getting some sort of extreme velocity target gun to use, such as any of the Winchester Super Short Magnums they have, so i can take those 200 to 300 yard shots without having to worry much about wind or gravity affecting my bullet traveling mach 5.
