Deer are dichromatic. They see the world with only two primary colors instead of the three that we see it with. Are deer color-blind?
I was told at a very young age that deer were color-blind. I have since learned that it may be an advantage in some ways because it can help deer avoid predators. This is because the di-chromatic vision helps to break up camoflauge by making it easier to identify outlines in the animal. Therefore if a predator is approaching from down-wind and its scent doesn't carry- The deer may still manage to escape because it can better see movement and/or the outline of the animal.
